Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a first-time, elective, bilateral total knee replacement (both knees), for osteoarthritis
  • Your anesthesia plan is spinal anesthesia using plain 0.5% bupivacaine
  • You are able to give consent and complete follow-up questionnaires by phone or online (or by email)
  • You have no reason you can’t use the study medicines (acetaminophen, Celebrex, bupivacaine, DEX, MPA, or LB)
  • You do not have bleeding problems, immune system problems, or a current/nearby infection at the nerve block site or in your body
