Hydroxychloroquine to reduce steroid use in sarcoidosis

This trial studies whether hydroxychloroquine can control extrapulmonary sarcoidosis (sarcoidosis outside the lungs) using less steroid treatment. It may help people who need systemic therapy for problems such as eyes, skin, bones, joints, nerves, ENT areas, or high calcium levels from sarcoidosis.

Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older and able to give informed consent.
  • You have sarcoidosis confirmed by a medical tissue test (biopsy) using standard criteria.
  • Your sarcoidosis is outside the lungs and is considered non-severe but needs whole-body treatment.
  • You must have one of these: non-severe eye, skin, bone, joint, nerve, ENT involvement, or sarcoidosis-related high calcium in blood/urine.
  • You must not have recently used other immunosuppressant medicines or steroids (steroids must be stopped at least 3 months), and you must not have taken hydroxychloroquine in the last 12 months.
