Who can take part
- Have early Alzheimer’s disease or memory decline called amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI)
- Be in the mild-to-moderate range on memory testing (MMSE 23 or higher; CDR score about 0.5 to 1.0)
- Have been on a stable Alzheimer’s medicine plan—like donepezil equivalent of 10 mg per day or less—for at least 60 days
- Be able to have brain scans (MRI and/or PET) and a stereotactic procedure (usually done with general anesthesia)
- Have a willing caregiver, and be living at home and likely able to stay there during the study
