Who can take part
- Be age 18 to 70 and able to sign consent and follow the study plan
- Have type 1 diabetes that started before age 45 and have needed insulin for at least 5 years
- Show you do not make insulin anymore on a specific meal test (low C-peptide at 60 and 90 minutes)
- Have frequent intense diabetes management and at least two severe low-blood-sugar episodes in the last year
