Using Real-Time Brain Imaging to Help Depression

This study tests whether real-time brain imaging (fMRI) can help people with depression learn to change their brain activity. You will receive feedback on your brain signals while thinking positive or neutral thoughts.

Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with major depression (currently or in the past).
  • You are feeling depressed or have lost interest in things (score of 6 or more on a standard depression quiz).
  • If you take antidepressants, the dose has been stable for at least 4 weeks.
  • You haven't had a substance use problem in the last 6 months.
  • You have no current thoughts of suicide with a plan or intention.
  • You have no metal in your body and can lie still in an MRI scanner without feeling anxious.
