How carotid artery blockage affects blood flow in the retina

Stroke, IschemicStenosis, Carotid

Part of Brain & nervous system, Heart & circulation clinical trials.

This trial examines how a narrowing of the main neck artery (carotid stenosis) impacts blood flow in the retina using a special eye test called automated retinal oximetry. The goal is to better understand how this blockage affects eye health.

Who can take part

  • You have had or will have an ultrasound of your neck arteries at the neurology department.
  • The ultrasound may be for a new finding, sudden symptoms, or a routine check of known narrowing.
  • You are able to sit through a standard eye exam, including looking into a device that measures oxygen levels in your retina.

NCT05539781Recruiting
Blood flow and brain function monitoring after carotid procedure

This trial studies how blood flow and brain function change after a carotid artery revascularization procedure (opening a narrowed carotid artery). It may help doctors understand what to expect after treatment, especially in people with significant artery narrowing.

NCT05780619Recruiting
Check a brain blood-flow test after carotid artery narrowing

This study tests how well a noninvasive ultrasound measurement (the Resistance Index) can show how well blood vessels in the brain respond to a medication. It may help doctors better assess brain blood-flow health in people with certain carotid artery blockages.

Ultrasound monitoring during carotid artery stenting

This trial is testing a special ultrasound (called transcranial Doppler) to monitor blood flow during a procedure to open a narrowed carotid artery in your neck. The ultrasound helps doctors see if the procedure is safe and working well.

Study of a new shunt system for carotid artery blockage treatment

This trial tests a special shunt system to protect your brain during carotid artery stenting. It may help people with severe blockages in the neck artery that supplies blood to the brain.

Stent study for asymptomatic carotid artery blockage

This trial tests a stent procedure to open a severely blocked carotid artery in people who have not had a stroke or mini-stroke from that blockage recently. It aims to see if the procedure is safe and effective for preventing future strokes.

Opening blocked carotid artery for ongoing symptoms

This trial tests a procedure to open a blocked carotid artery in the neck to improve blood flow to the brain. It's for people who still have symptoms (like weakness or vision problems) despite medical treatment.
