Who can take part
- You are male and have been diagnosed with rectal cancer through a biopsy.
- Your cancer has not spread to other parts of your body, as shown by a CT or PET-CT scan.
- Your tumor is located in the middle or lower part of the rectum, at least 1 cm above the anal sphincter, and doesn't involve the external anal sphincter.
- Based on MRI, your tumor has a specific stage (cT1-3N0-1) with no signs of spread to nearby structures (MRF negative). If you've had chemotherapy or radiation, your tumor must have shrunk to certain stages.
- You are scheduled to have either laparoscopic or robotic-assisted total mesorectal excision (TME) surgery.
- You do not have another cancer, previous open surgery in the area, or conditions like inflammatory bowel disease that would interfere with the trial.
