Electrical stimulation plus walking for stroke recovery

This study tests whether adding a type of electrical stimulation to leg muscles during walking can improve walking ability for people who are at least 6 months past a stroke. If you have weakness on one side and can walk on a treadmill with some help, you may be able to join.

Who can take part

  • You had a stroke more than 6 months ago that left one side of your body weak.
  • You can walk on a treadmill for at least 2 minutes, even with a brace or cane.
  • You have not used a leg muscle stimulator (like Bioness or Walkaide) in the past 6 weeks.
  • You are between 18 and 90 years old and can understand and speak English.
  • You do not have severe osteoporosis, high blood pressure at rest, or a pacemaker or certain heart conditions.
