Who can take part

  • You are an adult with COPD (or your doctor strongly suspects you have it).
  • You are in a medical or respiratory intensive care unit with high carbon dioxide levels and trouble breathing.
  • Your doctor has decided that non-invasive ventilation (a mask that helps you breathe) is needed.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You do not have other lung diseases like asthma, cystic fibrosis, or severe lung scarring.
  • You do not need a breathing tube right now, and you do not have conditions like a collapsed lung, shock, or serious facial injuries.
