Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You have been in the intensive care unit (ICU) less than 24 hours
  • You have a new, sudden breathing problem (not a long-term lung disease)
  • Low oxygen levels in your blood despite using a high-flow oxygen mask
  • You are not pregnant, not on long-term oxygen at home, and have no chest injury or surgery in the last 6 days
