Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 60 years old.
  • You have acute myeloid leukemia (not a subtype called M3) and are in first complete remission after initial treatment.
  • You are about to receive consolidation chemotherapy with cytarabine or a similar drug.
  • Your major organs (heart, lungs, liver, kidneys) are working well enough based on standard tests.
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, and you agree to use effective birth control during the study and for 6 months after.
  • You have not had any other cancer treatment (chemo, radiation, immunotherapy) within the last 2 weeks, and any side effects from past treatment have mostly resolved.
