Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older and in the intensive care unit for electrical storm (repeated episodes of a dangerously fast heart rhythm).
- You do not have ongoing shock that requires two or more blood-pressure-raising medicines for over 30 minutes (not caused by the abnormal heart rhythm).
- You have not had a cardiac arrest with more than 10 minutes of no blood flow or low blood flow before being enrolled.
- You are not having a heart attack (STEMI) with active signs of ongoing heart damage that caused the abnormal rhythm.
- You do not have a very slow heart rate (below 40 beats per minute) or a heart block without a pacemaker, and you are not pregnant or allergic to dexmedetomidine.
- You have not taken dexmedetomidine or clonidine in the 24 hours before the study.
