Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have septic shock (severe infection with very low blood pressure requiring medications to maintain adequate perfusion) and high lactate levels (a sign your body isn't getting enough oxygen)
  • Your blood pressure is not responding well to high doses of standard blood-pressure medications (norepinephrine), and you show signs of circulatory failure
  • You've received adequate IV fluids and are on a mechanical ventilator (breathing machine)
  • You do not have severe liver damage, a very slow heartbeat, or a serious heart conduction problem
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or enrolled in another competing clinical trial
