Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are having planned surgery on your abdomen (stomach or intestines).
  • Your risk of a lung problem after surgery is moderate to high (based on a standard score).
  • You will stay in the hospital after your surgery (not go home the same day).
  • You do not have a known or expected difficult airway (trouble placing a breathing tube).
  • You will not need a breathing machine after surgery.
