This trial tests a new implant (Hyalex) designed to repair damaged knee cartilage in people ages 21 to 65. If you have a painful cartilage defect that hasn't improved with standard treatments, this study may offer a new option to restore your knee surface.

Who can take part

  • Between 21 and 65 years old.
  • Have a BMI of 35 or less (a measure of body fat based on height and weight).
  • Have a damaged area on the smooth surface of your knee joint (cartilage) that is about 1 to 10 square centimeters (roughly the size of a nickel to a large egg).
  • Have had knee pain that hasn't gotten better with at least 3 weeks of treatments like anti-inflammatory pills or physical therapy.
  • Your knee must be stable, with no major alignment issues or other serious knee problems.
