Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • A legal representative has given written permission for you to join.
  • You are on a breathing machine with a tube in your windpipe.
  • You have severe lung failure (low oxygen levels despite high oxygen delivery).
  • You are receiving continuous medicine to keep you asleep, with or without muscle relaxants.
  • You are expected to need the ventilator for more than 48 hours, and you do not have only a COPD flare-up, a muscle disease, or any condition that prevents using special monitoring tools.
