Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You are in the hospital with acute breathing failure and need a breathing machine (ventilator).
  • Your doctor has already planned to do a lung CT scan and a special test called EIT (which uses mild electrical currents to create images of your lungs) to help set the ventilator pressure.
  • You are not pregnant.
  • You do not have a pacemaker or other condition that makes the EIT test or lung CT unsafe.
