This trial tests a new type of cell therapy (CAR T-cells) to see if it can stop the immune system from attacking the body in severe lupus. It’s for people ages 2–30 whose lupus is not controlled by other treatments and who are willing to be treated at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Who can take part

  • Age 2 to 30 years old (first few patients must be 17 or older).
  • Active lupus that has not responded to standard treatments.
  • Able to undergo a blood cell collection procedure (apheresis) or have a stored product ready.
  • No recent use of certain lupus medications: at least 24 weeks since Rituximab, 12 weeks since Benlysta or Anifrolumab, and 4 weeks since calcineurin inhibitors.
  • No active infections, brain involvement from lupus, or need for dialysis.
  • Live within 1 hour of Seattle Children’s Hospital for 4 weeks after the CAR T cell infusion.
