This trial tests a type of brain stimulation called theta burst transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to see if it can help people who have trouble swallowing after a stroke. It is designed for people who had their first stroke within the last 2 weeks to 6 months and are right-handed.

Who can take part

  • Be between 18 and 80 years old
  • Had your first stroke between 2 weeks and 6 months ago, and are right-handed
  • Have swallowing problems diagnosed by a special X-ray test called a videofluoroscopic swallowing study
  • Score above 24 on a memory and thinking test (MMSE)
  • Have an intact skull without any prior brain surgery or metal plates
  • No metal implants in your head or eye, and no pacemaker or drug pump in your body
