Who can take part

  • You are between 19 and 89 years old.
  • You have diabetes and nerve pain in your legs, with worst pain score at least 5 out of 10 on a standard pain scale.
  • You have been diagnosed with peripheral artery disease (narrowed leg arteries) and get leg cramps when walking, with pain at least 6 out of 10 during activity for 3 months or more.
  • You have already had a successful trial of a spinal cord stimulator (meaning it reduced your leg pain by more than half) and are scheduled to get a permanent implant.
  • You do not have uncontrolled mental health issues, open wounds, gangrene, critical limb ischemia, or a prior leg amputation, and you are able to safely stop blood-thinning medication for the procedure.
  • You have not had a spinal cord stimulator before, and your spine is stable (no major instability seen on X-rays).
