Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 80 years old.
  • You had a CT scan within 24 hours of your symptoms starting that showed a significant amount of bleeding in the brain's fluid-filled spaces (ventricles).
  • If you have a separate area of bleeding in the brain, it must be smaller than 30 ml (about the size of a golf ball).
  • Your surgery must happen within 72 hours of the first CT scan.
  • Your level of consciousness (GCS score) is 14 or lower, meaning you are not fully alert.
  • You do not have an untreated brain aneurysm, Moyamoya disease, or a bleeding tumor, and you are not on certain blood thinners.
