Brain Networks in Parkinson's and DBS

This study uses a brain scan called MEG to look at how Parkinson's disease and impulse control disorders affect brain networks in people who have already had deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. You will be asked to delay your morning medication so the researchers can study your brain without the effects of the drugs.

Who can take part

  • You have Parkinson's disease and have already had surgery to place electrodes in the subthalamic nucleus (a part of the brain) for deep brain stimulation (DBS).
  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are willing to delay your morning Parkinson's medication for up to four hours before the study session.
  • You can sit still in an MEG scanner (a brain imaging machine) and follow instructions for about 2–3 hours.
  • You do not have any other implanted medical devices (like a pacemaker) that could interfere with the MEG scan.
  • You have not been diagnosed with other neurological conditions (like stroke, epilepsy, or multiple sclerosis).
