Who can take part

  • You have moderate to severe ARDS (low oxygen levels in the blood) and were put on a breathing tube within the last 3 days.
  • You are on a breathing machine that is doing all the work of breathing for you.
  • You are not on ECMO (heart-lung bypass) or have a collapsed lung, pacemaker, recent chest injury, severe burns, increased brain pressure, or unstable shock.
  • You are not pregnant.
  • Your family member has agreed to let you join the study.
