Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have a severe injury to the neck area of the spinal cord (between the C2 and T1 vertebrae) that causes significant paralysis (AIS grade A, B, or C).
  • You need surgery to remove bone or disc material to relieve pressure on the spinal cord, and your surgeon agrees you're a good candidate.
  • The surgery must happen within 3 days (72 hours) of the injury.
  • You can give consent (or a family member or legal representative can do so for you).
  • You do not have other serious health problems that would limit recovery, and your injury is not in the mid-back or lower back.
