Reducing Immunosuppression in Older Kidney Transplant Patients (RIOT Trial)

This trial tests whether older kidney transplant recipients can safely reduce their immunosuppression medications using a special monitoring tool called Trugraf. If you are over 55, have had a stable transplant, and want to possibly lower your medications, this study may be for you.

Who can take part

  • You are 55 years old or older and have had only one kidney transplant (or two if the first was from a living donor).
  • You do not have HIV.
  • You are currently taking tacrolimus along with either mycophenolate mofetil or Myfortic (a type of mycophenolate).
  • You have not had any rejection episodes since your transplant, and a recent biopsy (if done) shows no signs of rejection.
  • Your blood tests show no antibodies that are strong enough to cause rejection (DSA and cPRA below certain levels).
