Who can take part

  • You must be between 35 and 70 years old.
  • You must have had type 1 diabetes for at least 5 years.
  • Your diabetes must be unstable despite using a continuous glucose monitor and insulin pump for at least 6 months.
  • You must have either had a severe low blood sugar episode in the past year or have reduced awareness of low blood sugar (score of 4 or higher on a Clarke score).
  • You must be willing to commit to lifelong follow-up after the transplant.
