Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 68 years old.
- You have had type 1 diabetes for at least 5 years, and specific blood tests show you still have very low insulin-producing activity (C-peptide).
- Your blood sugars have been hard to control, with frequent or severe low blood sugar, not noticing low blood sugar, or recent hospital visits for diabetic ketoacidosis.
- You can follow a strict after-transplant plan: immunosuppressing medicines, reliable birth control, frequent clinic visits, and detailed blood sugar/insulin logging.
- You are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and can give informed consent.
- You do NOT have major exclusion issues like significant kidney/liver/heart disease, active eye disease affecting the retina, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or certain infections/cancer history.
