Ultrasound vs. standard method for fluid status in severe sepsis

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have severe sepsis (life-threatening infection causing organ failure)
  • You need to be treated in an intensive care unit
  • You do not have liver cirrhosis or severe heart valve disease that affects ultrasound readings
  • You are not on dialysis for kidney failure
  • You are not pregnant
