Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with arthritis of the lower back (degenerative lumbar spondylosis).
  • You have tried at least 3 months of non-surgical treatments (like therapy or medicine) without enough relief.
  • Your MRI or CT scan shows a bulging or herniated disc at the L4-5 and L5-S1 levels (the last two discs in your spine).
  • You do not have severe spine instability, a slipped vertebra, severe osteoporosis, tuberculosis, or a tumor in your spine.
  • You do not have uncontrolled heart, liver, or kidney disease that would affect surgery or medications.
  • You are able to follow instructions and complete follow-up visits.
