Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You have pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in your leg, buttock, or low back due to a worn-out disc in your lower back (L4 to S1).
  • You have tried non-surgical treatments like physical therapy or pain medicine for at least 6 weeks and they haven't helped enough.
  • Your back problems are disabling enough to score high on a disability questionnaire (Oswestry score > 40).
  • You have not had previous spine surgery at the same levels in your lower back.
