Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You are on a breathing machine and expected to need it for at least 48 hours
  • You are receiving sedative medications through an IV drip
  • You are able to consent yourself or have a legally authorized representative consent for you
  • You do not have severe hearing problems, a rash on your forehead, a history of multiple drug abuse, or severe dementia
  • Doctors are not planning to withdraw life support within the next 24 to 48 hours
