Who can take part

  • You had a stroke from a blood clot (ischemic) at least 9 months ago, but less than 10 years ago.
  • You have weakness in one arm (right or left) and your arm function scores between 20 and 50 on a motor test.
  • You are able to communicate, understand instructions, and commit to follow-up visits after surgery.
  • You are not using medications that interfere with the vagus nerve stimulation, such as certain blockers or norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors.
  • You do not have severe depression, severe arm stiffness, or significant loss of feeling in your arm.
  • You do not have a pacemaker or other implanted stimulation device, and you are not pregnant or planning pregnancy.
