Who can take part

  • You are 12 years or older and can think clearly.
  • You are scheduled for scoliosis repair surgery.
  • You will be using a patient-controlled pain pump (PCA) after surgery.
  • You or your parent/guardian have signed a consent form.
  • You are not taking opioids or cannabis for chronic pain for more than a month.
  • You do not have drug or alcohol problems, depression, anxiety, or PTSD, moderate to severe organ problems, or allergies to the study drugs.

Pain control after scoliosis surgery: comparing two numbing medicines

This study compares two types of numbing medicine used during scoliosis surgery to see which provides better pain relief after the operation. One is a long-acting version (liposomal bupivacaine) and the other is a standard short-acting mix (bupivacaine with epinephrine).
