Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with persistent atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat that doesn't go away on its own).
  • You have tried at least one heart rhythm medication (Class I or III) and it either didn't work or caused side effects.
  • You do not have major heart valve problems that need surgery.
  • You have no blood clot in your heart's upper left chamber (left atrial thrombus) on a recent scan.
  • You have not had a recent heart attack and your heart's pumping strength is not severely weak (LVEF greater than 30%).
  • You do not have a serious active infection.
