Who can take part

  • You are between 20 and 80 years old.
  • You have persistent atrial fibrillation that has not been treated with catheter ablation in the past year.
  • You do not have serious heart valve disease or very weak heart muscle (ejection fraction above 30%).
  • You are able to take blood thinners and do not have active bleeding.
  • You are in generally good health aside from AF, with no severe lung, kidney, or other organ problems.

Extended ablation vs. standard treatment for persistent atrial fibrillation

This trial compares two catheter ablation techniques for people with persistent atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat that doesn't go away on its own). It will test whether a more extensive ablation (burning more heart tissue) works better than the standard procedure of isolating the pulmonary veins (the veins that bring blood from the lungs to the heart). If you have this condition and have had at least one episode in the past year, this study might help you find a more effective treatment.
