Bed positioning to reduce pressure on the body

This study tests a special bed positioning technique (lateralization therapy) to see if it lowers pressure on the body and helps prevent bedsores in people on breathing machines. Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are on a breathing machine (ventilator) and not yet ready to try breathing on your own.
  • You are not on very high doses of blood pressure medicine (norepinephrine) and your blood pressure can be kept stable.
  • You do not have a dangerous heart rhythm or active bleeding that makes your blood pressure unstable.
  • You do not have any bedsores (pressure ulcers) on your tailbone, the back of your head, shoulder blades, or heels at the start of the study.
