Who can take part
- 18 years or older
- Have one leg amputated below the knee (transtibial amputation)
- Your healthy leg has full movement and function
- Your residual limb (stump) is at least 4 inches long from the top of the shin bone to the end, so the stimulator pads can fit
- You have had moderate to severe pain in the limb (score of 3 or higher on a 0–10 pain scale)
- You can feel light touch in at least 7 out of 10 spots on your stump (checked with a thin filament test)
- Your body mass index (BMI) is 35 or less (the stimulator works better at lower BMI)
- You have not used electrical stimulation on the stump in the past 6 months
- You do not have severe diabetes, numb skin, open wounds, or ulcers on the stump
- You have not had a stroke or nerve injury in a leg
- You do not have a pacemaker or implanted heart defibrillator
