Who can take part

  • Be a veteran
  • Speak English
  • Have diabetic peripheral neuropathy (diagnosed for at least 5 years) or a lower limb amputation (below or above knee)
  • If you have an amputation, it must be at least 3 months old
  • If you have an amputation, you must have a nerve cuff implanted around your sciatic or tibial nerves (for a specific subgroup)
  • Not have severe neurological, vision, hearing, heart, lung, or cognitive conditions
  • Not be pregnant
  • Not have a history of sensitivity to light
  • If you have an amputation, must not have an active skin infection at the residual limb or significant phantom limb pain
