Who can take part

  • You have thyroid cancer and are scheduled to have your entire thyroid gland removed, along with the lymph nodes in the center of your neck.
  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You are in fairly good health (able to do light work or better) and expected to live at least one more year.
  • Your blood counts, kidney function, liver function, and thyroid hormone levels are within safe limits.
  • You do not have active infections, serious immune system problems, or other major health conditions that would make surgery risky.
