Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have had a stroke caused by a blocked artery in the middle of the brain within the last 3 days.
  • The stroke area is large (80–300 mL) or has a low ASPECTS score (1–5) on a brain scan.
  • You are not scheduled for a surgery to remove part of your skull to reduce brain pressure.
  • You do not have severe low blood pressure (less than 90 systolic) or signs of brain herniation.
  • You are not allergic to certain blood pressure or heart rate medications (like terazosin, urapidil, esmolol, or propranolol).
