Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have moderate-to-severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
  • You do not have a history of emphysema, asthma, or a collapsed lung (pneumothorax)
  • Your oxygen level is above 90% and you do not have severe instability requiring high doses of blood pressure medication or other serious conditions
  • You are not pregnant and do not have a do-not-resuscitate (DNR) order
