- You are between 18 and 75 years old.
- You have a major heart attack affecting the front of your heart, with specific EKG changes and wall motion problems on imaging.
- The blocked artery is the left anterior descending (LAD) artery, near its start.
- You arrive at the hospital within 1 to 6 hours of chest pain starting.
- Your doctors plan to do emergency angioplasty (stenting) to open the artery.
- You do not have certain other heart conditions, recent stroke, active bleeding, or severe organ problems.
