Testing guselkumab with antibiotics for chronic pouchitis

This study tests whether adding a medication called guselkumab to antibiotics can help people with chronic or recurring pouchitis, a condition that causes inflammation in the J-pouch after ulcerative colitis surgery. Participants will take antibiotics for the first 4 weeks and guselkumab as an injection over the course of the trial.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older and have had your colon and rectum removed because of ulcerative colitis, resulting in a J-pouch internal pouch.
  • You have had at least 2 episodes of pouchitis in the past year that needed treatment, or you have been on antibiotics for pouchitis for at least 4 weeks without success.
  • You agree to take ciprofloxacin (or metronidazole if you cannot take cipro) for the first 4 weeks of the study.
  • You have not received a drug like Stelara, Skyrizi, or any other IL-12/23 blocker in the past.
  • You do not have a serious infection, active tuberculosis, or other health conditions that would make the study unsafe for you.
