Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have been diagnosed with acute type A aortic dissection (a tear in the main artery from the heart).
  • You had surgery on your aorta that used a heart-lung machine.
  • You were in the intensive care unit after surgery and on a breathing machine (ventilator).
  • You are not pregnant, and you do not have severe lung disease like lung cancer.
