- You are older than 18 years
- You have severe mitral valve narrowing (valve area less than 1.5 cm²)
- You have dense calcium in the valve ring or leaflets (from aging or rheumatic heart disease)
- You do not have more than moderate leakage of the mitral valve
- You do not have a blood clot in the heart (checked by ultrasound)
- You are not pregnant and have no active bloodstream infection
