Who can take part

  • You are 20 years or older.
  • You have type 2 diabetes with an A1c between 7% and 10% (a blood sugar average over 3 months).
  • You take metformin alone or with a sulfonylurea or a DPP-4 inhibitor (common diabetes pills).
  • A liver scan within the last 3 months showed you have fatty liver (a score of 268 or higher on a FibroScan).
  • You have at least one of: large waist size, high blood pressure (or taking medicine for it), high triglycerides (or taking medicine for them), low HDL cholesterol, high insulin resistance, or high C-reactive protein (a sign of inflammation).
  • You have not changed your diabetes or metabolic medications in the last 3 months.
