Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 70 years old
- You are scheduled for an elective (non-emergency) heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine
- You do not have significant narrowing in your neck arteries (carotid stenosis)
- You have not had a stroke or other brain event in the past
- You have a normal thinking and memory screening score (MMSE) before surgery
