This study tests whether blood thinners and/or cholesterol-lowering medications can prevent future strokes in people who have small, silent brain infarctions found on MRI. If you've never had a stroke or TIA before, and are not already on similar medications, you may be a candidate.

Who can take part

  • You are 50 years or older.
  • You had an MRI that showed a small, silent brain infarction (a tiny area of damage) that you never had symptoms from.
  • You have never had a stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA, or mini-stroke) before.
  • You do not have a high risk of bleeding or a condition that requires long-term blood thinners.
  • You are not already taking cholesterol-lowering medication or antiplatelet drugs for a related condition.
  • You are generally independent in daily activities (able to care for yourself).
