Who can take part

  • You have acute breathing failure with low oxygen levels and are on a breathing tube for less than 72 hours.
  • You have an arterial line in place for blood draws and blood pressure monitoring.
  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You are not pregnant or less than 6 weeks after giving birth.
  • You do not have a collapsed lung, a pacemaker, chronic lung disease, or certain heart conditions.
  • You are not on a heart-lung machine and can safely lie on your stomach.
