Who can take part

  • You must be an adult (18 years or older).
  • You must have acute respiratory failure and need a breathing machine for longer than 5 days.
  • You cannot have nerve or muscle conditions that affect movement.
  • You cannot have had recent leg surgery, injury, or poor blood flow to the leg.
  • You cannot have a leg amputation, blood clot, or large leg wounds.
  • You cannot be pregnant.
